Clifton L. Spinner

Clifton L. Spinner, a nephew of the late Percy L. Brown Jr. and a native of Steubenville, Ohio is a commander with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.  Clifton studied at West Liberty University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice.  He was also a four year standout athlete on the football team.  Realizing the importance of education, Clifton continued his education enrolling at the University of Cincinnati earning a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Public Administration.  In addition, Clifton graduated from Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff & Command. 

Clifton has received numerous awards and served on several boards and committees.  He is the former assistant chair and two term member of the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Professionalism Commission.  He is also a former member of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Federal Credit Union Board of Directors.  He currently serves as chair of the Board of Directors for the Brightway Center and vice chair of the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Client Security Fund.  Clifton is an adjunct professor at Ohio University, teaching in the criminal justice / law enforcement program.

Because of the examples set by Clifton’s uncle, Percy L. Brown Jr, another uncle, Mr. William L. Spinner, his parents, and family, Clifton values education and service.  He volunteers a lot of his time to the young people.  He has served as a Big Brother with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. He volunteers numerous hours at the Brightway Center’s Christian youth camp. In addition, he has served as an assistant scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America, and readily volunteers to take kids fishing.  He and his family belong to Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, and reside in the greater Columbus area.  Clifton’s advice to the youth, “Keep God first, and all things are possible.  Set numerous goals for yourself, ensure you are properly prepared to succeed, work extremely hard to reach such goals, and never, ever give up!”
