Who was Percy Lee Brown, Jr.

The Percy Lee Brown, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund is named in honor of the late Percy Lee Brown, Jr. of Steubenville, Ohio. Percy was a tremendous athlete who excelled in football, basketball, baseball and boxing.  His prowess and tenacity as a boxer earned him his nickname, “Bomber.”  However, his favorite sport was football.  He graduated from Steubenville High School and went on to play football at The Ohio State University.  While there he became a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.  He also attended the College of Steubenville.  Ultimately, he tried out with the Cleveland Browns and played for them briefly.

Percy strongly believed that he could make a difference in his community where he was extremely active.  Percy was a member of the Second Baptist Church, the NAACP, the Labelleview Neighborhood Watch Committee, the Prince Albert Lodge #232 and the Democratic County Central Committee.  He ran twice for Councilman in the 1st ward.  He served too as a Special Police Officer and as volunteer football and basketball coaches.  Percy retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation as a Laboratory Chemist. +More...
