I am a Production supervisor/mechanical engineer for Allison Transmission in Indianapolis. I received a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) from Purdue University Polytechnic Institute.
I will manage a team of operators and machines to mass-produce a new product line for Allison Transmission. I will be leading all fabrication cells and the assembly lines for the new product launch.
Manufacturing Quality Control and Materials and Processing were the two most helpful classes throughout my time at Purdue. They helped me to truly understand process flow and how to maintain quality in industry. The hands-on labs and involved class lectures really helped me to understand what really happens in industry and prepared me for what I encountered later at my internships.
The Purdue Polytechnic provided multiple career fairs and preparation seminars that helped put me into the right position for this job. Purdue offers so many resources and opportunities to help direct your future the way you want it to go. There are resources, such as the Center for Career Opportunities and the career fairs, that will help you with finding and preparing for a job.
Thanks to Toni Munguia who has been an inspiration and significant reason behind my success at Purdue. I first met her when I was a junior in high school, and she has taken care of me ever since. Thanks to Jessica Taylor and Maurice Williams for serving as personal mentors and offering advice for all aspects of life. Finally thanks to all MET professors and staff for taking their time and passion and applying it into teaching and helping students like me.
- Terrance Harrell
I am a 2011 graduate of Bethune Cookman University. I received the Percy Lee Brown, Jr. Scholarship Fund in approximately 2006 in preparation of my college career and went on to study business administration and minor in social work. I received my Bachelor Degree in 2010 from Bethune Cookman and will always be grateful for the contribution made from the Brown scholarship fund.
Currently, I am in my third year as business owner with A Mother’s Love Daycare. The higher education that I have obtained has given me the information and skill set needed to successfully run a business confidently and professionally. The opportunity to pursue higher education would not have been available to me had it not been for the investments from organizations like the Percy Lee Brown, Jr. Scholarship Fund that were made into my future. Thank you for your support of my education.
- Destiny M. Moody
During my sophomore year at Hampton University, I received a scholarship from the Percy Lee Brown Scholarship Fund. This scholarship assisted me during a time when I was financially strapped and when I wasn’t sure where I would find the funds to purchase my academic books. I am forever grateful for the support that the Percy Lee Brown Scholarship Fund provided my family during my college tenure. Not only was it a financial relief but it also reminded me of the gratitude and selflessness that the scholarship represents. I completed my Bachelors of Science degree from Hampton University in 2006, and went on to receive my MBA from Ohio Dominican University.
Currently, I work for JPMorgan Chase & Co. as a Division Leader in Chase Retail Services. I oversee 115 employees from multiple segments. I know undoubtedly that local scholarships are the key to our children having the ability to take that next step in post-secondary education.
- Sequena M. Brown
The Percy Brown scholarship was instrumental in helping me obtain my degree. Obviously it was a help financially but it goes deeper than that. It gave me the extra motivation I needed to persevere. There were many days I felt overwhelmed mentally and physically. I even wanted to give up. The spirit of Percy Brown helped me see the bigger picture and the long term benefit of persevering. College was one of the most challenging times of my life but I would not change any of it one bit. I am thankful for the experience. I have been able to move to California and pursue opportunities that would have never been available to me without my degree. I am forever thankful for what the Percy Brown Scholarship foundation has helped me achieve. I hope to "pay it forward" and do the same for another student in the future.
